Job Description

As a Public and Green Space Operator, your primary responsibility is to keep our city looking its best. You’ll work within designated areas, collaborating with a team to perform a range of tasks related to cleansing and grounds maintenance. Your duties will include litter removal, graffiti clean-up, weed control, basic facility inspections, and more. Your efforts will contribute to maintaining a clean, safe, and visually pleasing public realm.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Cleansing and Maintenance:

    • Regular litter removal and emptying of litter bins
    • Graffiti removal and fly post clean-up
    • Weed trimming and shrub maintenance
    • Public toilet cleaning
    • Basic facility inspections and reporting of maintenance issues
    • Identifying additional work for specialist teams
  2. Issue Resolution:

    • Respond to daily issues and address them where possible
    • Report issues affecting the city’s appearance
    • Assist the Public and Green Space Team Leader in addressing concerns
  3. Public Engagement:

    • Inform and assist the public and businesses regarding your work
    • Address queries and complaints
  4. Training and Safety:

    • Complete safety training and adhere to safe work practices
    • Ensure the safe and effective execution of duties
    • Use IT solutions for efficient work responses
  5. Documentation and Flexibility:

    • Maintain basic records and complete timesheets
    • Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends when required
    • Support operations across the Public Realm service
  6. Other Duties:

    • Perform additional duties as relevant to the role and as instructed

Qualifications and Knowledge:

  • Essential:

    • General education to GCSE standard in two suitable subjects (Maths and English preferred)
    • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and requirements
    • Hold a U.K Driving License
    • Ability to work as part of a team and perform a wide range of duties
    • Proficiency with mobile communication devices
    • Strong prioritisation skills
    • Understanding of cleansing, horticulture, grounds maintenance services, or similar outdoor activities
    • Demonstrated literacy and numeracy skills
  • Desirable:

    • Evidence of training in areas such as weed spraying or use of mechanical equipment
    • Experience in cleansing, horticulture, grounds maintenance services, or similar outdoor activities
    • Experience in implementing and maintaining safe systems of work
